Everyone can find small things around their home that could use a little improvement. However, not all of us want to spend days on the project or spend a lot of cash to make the improvements.

Here are a few inexpensive and relatively easy things that you can do to add marketability your home.

1. Paint- Painting is a fast and easy way to change the overall look of any home. A fresh coat of paint can really add life to a room. If you are planning on selling your home, it might be a good idea to stick with neutral colors. That way buyers won’t be overwhelmed with bright colors they don’t find attractive as they walk into the house. Earthy tones, along with whites and tans are more acceptable to a broader group of potential buyers.

2. Replace Door Knobs- Older homes can have dated, rusted, or worn door knobs. By replacing all the door knobs with a newer style, it can make your home look more up to date. We recommend you buy all the knobs at the same time to eliminate the possibility of having a vendor run out of stock.

3. Update Light Fixtures- You may need some electrical experience to tackle this home improvement task. However, if you need to hire someone, you can usually find a good electrician at a reasonable price. There are hundreds of different styles of lights you can use to give an updated feel to your home.

4. Install Ceiling Fans- As with lighting fixtures, this may require some electrical experience. Installing ceiling fans to your living room or bedroom is a great way to add a finishing touch to any room. Ceiling fans provide an excellent and cheap way to circulate the air in your home, as well as, keep it cool in the summertime.

5. Paint Kitchen Cabinets- The kitchen is the most used room in every house. Why not make it more attractive by touching up the cabinets with a fresh coat of paint? A lot of times, cabinets can get nicked up by the normal wear and tear of everyday use. Instead of remodeling the whole kitchen, this simple update can make a huge difference in the appearance of the kitchen.
