Sioux Falls Food Pantry

The Need is Real, The Need is Now!

Food Drive November 15 - December 15

One of the things we've always treasured about this great community is the caring and generous spirit of the people who live here. This holiday season we have the opportunity to help our neighbors, and give something back. So far in 2008, the Sioux Falls Food Pantry is experiencing a 40% increase in need for area adults, children and families over this same time last year. The demand continues to grow as we head in to colder winter months. Please help in our efforts to help those among us who need it most - bring your food and/or cash donations to our HJN Team Real Estate Food Drive:

November 15 - December 15

HJN Team Real Estate   101 W. 69th St.   Suite #101   Sioux Falls

Drop Times: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Our moving truck will be parked in the HJN Team Real Estate parking lot with a "Accepting Food Pantry Donations" banner. If you are unable to drop off your donation at our office - call or e-mail us and we will gladly pick it up.

The Sioux Falls Food Pantry has worked to alleviate community hunger for over 25 years. Through their programs, the Food Pantry Serves:

Children and Infants: make up over 40% of the outreach program

Elderly: those on fixed incomes facing health and medical costs.

The Working Poor: those whose incomes do not meet their most basic needs.

Families: who need temporary emergency help due to loss of employment, illness, etc.

What Impact do the Sioux Falls Food Pantry and the Community Food Banks of South Dakota have?

Through it's area programs (The Sioux Falls Food Pantry, The BackPack Program for at-risk school age children, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for low income seniors, and the state-wide Food Bank Network), the network distributed 9.3 million pounds of food in South Dakota in 2007.

What is the BackPack Program?

In Sioux Falls over 3,700 (40%) of the elementary school students and 1,530 (35%) of the middle school students rely on free or reduced cost meals provided through the National School Lunch Program. If not for these meals far too many school children would be trying to learn on an empty stomach, a situation in which very few can be successful. What happens to these childrens on the weekends though, when there is no school? That is where the BackPack Program comes in. This program provides at-risk children with nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods for the weekends until school (and access to the programs) resumes. The food is packaged and distributed in non-descript backpacks to carry home. For only $125, the Food Pantry can provide a student with a backpack of food each weekend for the ENTIRE school year.

What Items Does the Sioux Falls Food Pantry Need?

The next time you visit the grocery store, print this Food Pantry Wish List and bring it along with you. The Pantry shelves are stocked with groceries every day, so these items are always needed.
