There's been a lot of excitement lately (and a lot of confusion, too, unfortunately) about the new Federal Tax Credit available for First Time Home Buyers. A quick summary of how the Credit works: The tax credit is available for first-time home buyers only. The maximum credit amount is $7,500. Single tapayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify. The tax credit works like an interest-free loan, and must be re-paid over a 15 year period.

The best web-site we've found with a full program explanation and all the details (written in easy-to-understand language) was developed as a project by the National Association of Home Builders: You can get all the details at FederalHousingTaxCredit.com.
